Dick Building Company recently completed the renovation of the 7th-floor office space in the Mellon Institute building. The Mellon Institute building is a highly recognizable research institute in the center of Oakland’s university district. It was designed by renowned architect Benno Janssen in the early 1900s. The building houses the Office of the Dean for Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Science along with the administrative offices and research laboratories for the Biology Sciences and Chemistry Departments.
The scope of the office project included the demolition of walls, installation of all new mechanical electrical, plumbing rough-ins, lighting, flooring and new controls on an existing HVAC system. Dick Building Company was also responsible for applying a spray fire barrier which is an effective fire protectant solution. The newly renovated collaborative space equipped with a kitchenette, lounge area and computer research lab is bright and airy for the chemistry students to learn and gather information.
